Artisan: Joan Paparigian
I started making jewelry about seven years ago after buying a piece of jewelry at a craft show and realizing I could do it myself! I headed to the nearest bead store, asked the proprietor how to get started and haven’t quit yet. I am self-taught, learning new techniques from jewelry publications, fellow artisans, and good old-fashioned trial-and-error. I make one-of-a kind pieces using turquoise and other gemstones, both vintage and Swarovski crystal, art glass, quality metals, wood, and polymer clay beads, many of which are handmade. My designs are influenced by my love of the diverse cultures of Asia, Africa and the Southwestern United States.
